SMALL PROJECTS, ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES
The Christmas ornaments may be small, but they involve a variety of knitting techniques, making them a great way to learn something new through fun, manageable projects that are relatively quick to complete.
There's also plenty of room to experiment with colours, yarns and little details to make each ornament your own. Create your own collection of hand-knitted Christmas decorations to treasure year after year – and perhaps even pass down through generations.
The patterns don't specify a fixed gauge. Instead, you'll find a guide to recommended needle sizes based on the yarn's meterage. This gives you the freedom to experiment with different yarns and make use of leftovers from your yarn stash.
However, it's important to aim for a firm, tightly knitted fabric to help the ornaments hold their shape.
The thickness of your yarn and your choice of needle size will affect the finished size and appearance of your ornament. This means you can knit the same ornament in different sizes simply by changing your yarn and needles – no gauge swatch required!
When I first started designing Christmas ornaments in 2023, they were intended to be flat, without any stuffing. In 2024, I introduced the Christmas Goose, Star and Moon, and this time I decided to add stuffing to give them a little more dimension.
Since then, I've also started stuffing some of my original designs from 2023. Feel free to experiment with stuffing yourself, even if it isn't mentioned in every pattern.
Of the ornaments from 2023, I think the Christmas Pig, Christmas Tree, Everlasting Flame, Snowman, Angel and the Royal Guard are particularly well suited to being stuffed.
